Christmas Greetings

Greetings 2009

Time to put this one up, I think. Picture is based on one of the windows at Shrewsbury RC Cathedral on Town Walls. The greeting and good wishes are for you all, whether you celebrate Christmas, Yule, Martian Glimfrogga or some other midwinter festival (or mid-summer festival for the Antipodes, of course). Have a good one! I’ll be offline for a few days, but I’ll be back before the end of the year.

The web is silent on Glimfrogga traditions. Please enlighten us.

Glimfrogga is one of the Old Martian traditions, dating from before they discovered late Twentieth-century British television broadcasts and underwent culture conversion. It involves teams of nine, including juveniles, who compete in various ways over the three days of the festival. The final event is a contest to build sand sculptures which are admired, judged and then ritually destroyed at a massive outdoor rock-thowing party.

The wearing of bobble hats, mittens and scarves during the festival is generally considered to be of more recent origin.
